Fantastic Florals

I just love when magazine spreads (Elle Canada) get creative like this. I think that the blending of the background with the clothing is such a great way to express understated elegance. Floral is still SUPER trendy and I really like the fall colours being used (different hues of red, blue, and green). These pictures reminds me of the movie 'The Garden State', although this picture of Zach Braff isn't as glamorous by any stretch...haha.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Couture from cow's milk

Tell me that title didn't grab your attention...

28-year-old biologist/fashion designer for Mademoiselle Chi Chi, Anke Domaske found an easy way to turn sour milk into an environmentally friendly yarn! Yes, you heard me correctly. The process: eliminate the liquid and extract a protein that solidifies and is turned into thread.

She says:
"Milk is underrated because people only view it as a food-stuff. But you can make a lot more from it – milk is a wonderful, natural raw material. The special thing about milk is that is has a lovely silky feel. The fabric falls wonderfully, and it’s cheaper than silk".

My favorite part is that her clothing feels like silk, and yet it doesn't have a negative effect on the environment like silk production does (depends on pesticides and such). I love that she found a way to recycle bad milk, i'm pretty interested in eco-friendly fashion these days!

Domaske's couture starts at $290 - while it is somewhat expensive, I feel like I would be willing to spend the extra money for clothing of this quality and degree of innovation. Even celebrity Mischa Barton was seen wearing one of her designs!

Victoria Spruce shoes: creativity at its finest

Prepare to have your minds blown...or perhaps I should say feet.
Meet Victoria Spruce, a recent Masters graduate of the Royal College of Art in the UK. Her shoes are to die for, i've never seen anything quite like them. They remind me of swirls of paint and splashes of water because they are so incredibly organic. Aren't they futuristic? In my opinion, this is what fashion is all about; pushing the boundaries of what's cool and acceptable and giving everyone a little shock. I would love to see these shoes in much brighter colours - now THAT would be a summer hit. On the other hand, these neutral shades give the shoes a wonderful classiness which juxtaposes with their architectural appearance.
Her website isn't functional...yet! http://www.victoriaspruce.com/
I can see myself wearing a pair of beige or black pants, a simple watch and necklace, a basic top and any of these shoes - footwear like this makes such a bold statement. They are SO me.
I don't know how far i'll be able to walk in them but I would love to get my hands on a pair of these suckers!
Are YOU interested in a pair of her shoes? Are they TOO insane? Not enough?

Clean the air with your clothing??

I know that title sounded absolutely ridiculous...but it's true! The eco-friendly trend has moved into the clothing sector. It was just announced that Catalytic Clothing (a collaboration between the London College of Fashion/University of Sheffield) created a fabric that removes air pollutants in the air around it by using Titanium Dioxide (how cool is that?!). Can you imagine walking down the street and cleaning the air for both you and the people around you? Okay so maybe the dress is really weird looking...I'm actually surprised they couldn't design something a little nicer, especially since the London College of Fashion is involved. I really like the concept though, hopefully it can be used in more normal looking clothing soon!

Bye for now,

Xx Jess

2011 MTV Movie Awards: Fashion Report

What a fun night - I love red carpet fashion! If you haven't already seen the 2011 MTV Movie Awards, there are a millions clips online. I laughed out loud when Robert Patinson give Taylor Lauter some passionates smooches (instead of Kristen Stewart). Anyways, back to fashion!

Reese Witherspoon (top left) looked gorgeous! Did you know what she is 35?? How insane is that, she looks like she is in her 20's...She showed just the right amount of skin and her Zac Posen leopard print dress made her look 10 years younger. Way to keep up with what's hot! I do, however, wish the dress was a brighter colour...maybe red? A-

Jessica Szohr (top middle)...where do I begin? She looked like a train wreck. While the fit of her Alive + Olivia jumpsuit is super cute...what was she THINKING wearing that much PAISLEY? Yuck - she looks like my grandmother's old curtains. Also, can you get more boring than black and white? Hello....it's summer, show me some colour! I like to think of red carpet fashion as mainly dresses (some skirts work too) but wearing a romper is a little too casual for me. F - fashion fail!

Amanda Bynes (top right) looked very sexy from her head to her ankles...after that...not so much. Her beige Hervé Léger bandage dress fit her very well (although I'm getting quite sick of the bandage dress look) and I actually liked the colour of the dress against her skin tone. BUT come on...why ruin a perfectly good look with blue Christian Louboutin fringe heels? If they were sold blue heels, maybe. However the fringes were just too much and the shoes didn't flatter her legs. Next! C+

Elle Fanning (bottom left) was the epitome of innocence in her Dolce & Gabanna romper. Once again...rompers are too casual for the red carpet but her saving grace was that it was certainly age-appropriate. After all, she's only 13. Aren't you glad you didn't see her paint on a mini skirt or a skintight Hervé Léger bandage dress? Either way, the colours didn't do anything for her fair skin tone and the romper itself was inappropriate... but she gets a A for effort!

Brooklyn Decker (bottom middle) sparkled on the red carpet wearing No. 21. While I adore the gold colour matched with her healthy brown tan...her dress looked like a bag on her. Oh how I would have loved that dress if it were even a little more fitted at the waist...I love me some womanly curves! B

Last but not least, Kristen Stewart (bottom right) stole the show in her red leather strapless Balmain dress. Wow - can that girl can rock a mini dress! Her legs go on for miles. The dress was embellished with safety pins...very rocker-chic. The colour looks fabulous on her pale skin and her dark hair... what a good choice! Her simple black heels were a great choice because didn't try to compete with her incredible dress. A+++++

That's all for now!

Jess

Hot or Not: Turbans??

Hmmm...i'm not quite sure what to make of this trend. Part of me thinks it's super cool because it is very exotic and Middle Eastern, but the other part of me is thinking "what is she wearing??". Jennifer Lopez looks like she is undergoing cancer treatment and Salma Hayek kind of looks like a boy (even though she is sooo feminine). Sarah Jessica Parker's character 'Carrie' wore a turban in Sex and the City 2 - we can pretty much always expect Carrie to have an eclectic wardrobe! Kate Moss can pretty much wear anything she wants because she is always able to pull it off. Maybe the fact that she is one of the highest paid models helps somewhat? Finally, I don't mind Nicole Scherzinger's turban in that picture...in fact she wears it very well. I think my issue with turbans is that they make your head look like a cone (Nicole), a box (Salma), or a cover up for  baldness (Jennifer). What do YOU think of the turban trend? Would YOU wear one??

Crazy Nails!

Holy Cow! Look at these nails!! Both Rihanna and Katy Perry have gorgeous NEON nails (I am beyond obsessed with neon, I have to do a neon post soon!)
I lovelovelove the pink animal print nails. I'm not sure I could ever do that myself but they look luscious!
The silver nails have binary code on them...very...original? I wouldn't put that on my nails but it sure is different.
The bottom left nails are Katy Perry's 'royal wedding' nails...she someone managed to have stickers (?) of Prince William and his wife stuck on... talk about dedication to the British monarchy. Doesn't she live in the United States?
Last but not least, the bottom right image is...drum roll please...Lady Gaga's nails! Surprise, surprise, not. Not only are they insanely long, but it looks like she could cut up a thick steak with those things. Pairing the nails with that leather knuckle duster/instrument of death glove makes them look that much scarier. I have the ask the question...WHY?

The picture below is of my nails, NEON PINK! I did them myself, as you can tell, but I just had to show you guys seeing as I am a big fan of bold colours and statement pieces. What colour/pattern do you want on YOUR nails??

Latex & Rubber Clothing

At first glance, I'm pretty sure you were weary of this post because of it's name. But no! This is not a post about fetish clothing, it's a post about Jac Langheim. After perusing her Spring Summer 2011 collection, I am completely blown away by her creative use of these taboo materials. Take a good look at these pictures and tell me you don't feel the same way.

I think that Langheim's Spring Summer 2011 collection has managed to clean up the so-called 'dirty' perception of latex and rubber and turn it into something beautiful and sophisticated. I don't know about you but I would be proud to own both of the strapless dresses pictured above. While the clothing is form-fitting, the models don't look like they are suffocating! The black and cream dress (top set of pictures, middle picture) reminds me of snow white; it's absolutely gorgeous and very innocent. Let's just pretend we didn't already know this was a latex and rubber collection...would you have guessed?

Take a peek at the celebs below, they make latex and rubber look good without being too racy! Nice!

Jess

Spring 2011 Trend: Coral!

A really popular spring 2011 trend is the coral colour. This colour originates from coral reefs; it's a stunning reddish/pinkish orange hue that flatters every skin tone. Here are my 3 in-store favourites:

Celeb Coral Roundup

First up: Kim Kardashian. She is wearing 2 different coral dresses. Kim's skin tone is different in both pictures (tanned vs. less tanned) and this colour still looks incredible on her.
The top right picture is Selena Gomez wearing a beautiful coral goddess-style gown. This dress is more orange-y than Kim's but I still find that it makes Selena's skin glow.
The bottom left picture is a coral lipstick. I love that this colour grabs everyone's attention; the fact that it is on her lips (one of a woman's sexiest body parts!) really adds to a her sex appeal. Meow!
I also love the coral scarf, another example of how to wear coral. Having a coral scarf is a great POP of colour to any outfit!
The bottom right picture is of Rachel Bilson wearing a coral cropped blazer. Work it, girl!

In addition, my friend Kim just walked into the office and showed off her yummy coral nail polish! I think it's time to visit my manicurist...hehe.

Jump on the coral bandwagon!

Spring 2011 Trend: Floral!

The best part about Spring is the WARDROBE (obviously) because all my flowers can come out to play.

I love florals because they are 1. flattering (the attention is on the pattern, not your specific body parts) and 2. colourful. We all know how much I ADORE colour! For example, check out the rightmost picture of Vanessa Hudgens. Her dark brown hair, black shirt and black bag are contrasted beautifully with her bright skirt. My absolute favourite picture in this collage is the blonde girl wearing the colourful romper. The black background really makes the flowers POP!

LiME is big into the floral trend right now; we have TONS of GORGEOUS floral tops. I actually just tried one of our really cute floral tube tops (also available in pink). I really like the ruffles in the chest area and the fact that the blue is so vivid. Also, the shirt has an open V at the back, super cool! Come visit us and check it out!

LiME's 2011 Oscar Fashion Report

Okay, I LOVE the red carpet!! There are always so many incredibly creative and colourful dresses to drool over!! Let's get down to business:

How classy did Reese look at the Oscars??? I swear, the moment I saw her Barbie popped into my head.  The dress, the hairstyle...I LOVE it. The contrasting black and white give this dress a little bit of oomph and I adore that she isn't decked out in jewelry. Less can be more!

Cate Blanchett's Givenchy Couture dress is phenomenal in my opinion. I feel like it is getting a lot of backlash because it's different and not the typical Oscar gown. I love that because the shoulders are structured and the rest of the dress is extremely feminine, the gown has a fearless yet elegant vibe to it. The purple beading is lovely and I even like the yellow beading at the top because it brings the attention from the design of the dress back up to her face. Big win for Cate!!!

What was Jennifer Hudson THINKING? A) I HATE orange dresses on the red carpet, blech...too clashy. B) I just dislike orange in general, I find it the least flatting colour. C) This dress is HUGE, she looks like she is going a ball and she was just a presenter. Sorry JHud, you look like a bright orange traffic cone to me.

Woah, is that Cruella de Vil? No! It's Sharon Stone! I'm practically at a loss for words... her eyeliner is all wrong for this occasion and her dress looks like she is wearing a dead animal on her shoulder. Anyone with me on this one? THUMBS DOWN

THIS IS HANDS DOWN MY FAVOURITE GOWN OF THE NIGHT!! Wowowow, Mila Kunis looks ravishing in her lilac Elie Saab dress. I am totally drooling over the lace tiering, lavender chiffon and understated waist ribbon. This is definitely one of her best colours. The dress isn't too sexy even though you can see some thigh-action. Also, even though the necklace is pretty low, she kept her 'girls' in check and they didn't overpower her. LOVE ITTTTT

What are your thoughts on my oscar picks? Hit or miss? Let me know if you have any other favourites!

Jess

You'll Never Believe It!!!

Remember my last few posts about the half-moon manicure and the knit dresses with tassels? At Rihanna's recent birthday bash, not only was she rocking the gorgeous black and white half-moons, she was wearing one of those cut out dresses!!!!!
Do we know what's HOT or what???

Summer Knits: Sexy & Quirky

Well...this is different, right? First off, I adore the white dress; it reminds me of the new movie 'The Black Swan'. The torso is knitted together beautifully and it has some great short accent feathers that sway when you walk...sexy! While the other designs are a little too 'out there' for my taste, I can certainly appreciate the fact that they are hand woven. Even though a lot of skin is exposed, all the important bits are carefully covered nicely. This is my list of favourites:
1. The white feathery dress. What I wouldn't give to be 6 feet tall and wear this!
2. The black and pink dress. I love the 'bondage' detailing!
3. The romantic soft pink dress (soft pink is big at LiME by the way!). While this dress is very long, it's still pretty cool. Is it just me or does it look like it's going to to rip if you move?
4. The black, purple and orange dress. I like it...but I don't love it. It reminds me of when I used to do ballet as a kid, but with too many colours. Meh...

What do YOU guys think?

Jess

LiME's new watches! $20

LOVE the new watches, especially the clear one. They are very girly and sparkly, what girl wouldn't stick out if she wore one of these babies? At $20, I might as well get all of them and switch it up every day!

Add some sparkle to your life!

Half Moon Manicure

I sent this out in an email earlier today and I can't get over how different it is! This type of mani is super fashion forward and really pushes the boundaries of normal manicures. I usually rotate between doing a french manicure, using hot pink, neon orange, or a metallic blue but I LOVE this idea! DEFINITELY going to try it out!
Do you guys love it or hate it? Let me know before I do something i'll regret (hehe).

LiME's 2011 Grammy Fashion Report

Holy crap, what is Katy Perry wearing?? While I love that she takes a lot of creative liberties in fashion, this look is a mess. From the chest up, Katy Perry looks like a Victoria Secret Angel at one of their yearly fashion shows. Her boobs are big and sparkly and her Armani Privé dress has wings! Second, the rest of her dress is so tacky I can't even take it. The dress looks like it has an entirely too long wedding train. Save it for the next Victoria's Secret fashion show, Katy!

I lovelovelove how different this is. This Jean Paul Gaultier gown accentuates Rihanna's curvy figure in all the right places. While she did show a lot of skin, she had just enough coverage to keep her looking incredible classy and classy and sophisticated.
Who says horizontal stripes are unflattering?

Heidi Klum was a vision in gold at the 2011 Grammy's. Even though the mother of 4 (!!!) looked rocked the natural look, she made it look so glamorous! No jewelry needed!
Is it just me or does she look like a living oscar statuette??

What do YOU guys think? Could they have done better? Who is on YOUR best/worst dressed list?

xoxo,
Jess
